Braces, Splints & Casts
Braces, splints, and casts are commonly used to support injured joints, protect healing tissues, and assist with recovery following injury or surgery. At Camden Performance Physiotherapy, we provide professional assessment and fitting of appropriate supports to help stabilise the affected area while allowing safe movement during rehabilitation.
What Are Braces, Splints & Casts?
Depending on the injured structure such as bones, ligaments or tendons and the stage of recovery, your physiotherapist or surgeon may recommend a brace, splint, or cast to help manage pain, promote healing, and prevent further damage.
Braces provide external support to joints while still allowing controlled movement e.g. knee ROM brace, CAM boot.
Splints are used to limit movement and protect injured areas, often following fractures or tendon injuries e.g. thermoplastic splints.
Casts provide rigid immobilisation to ensure proper healing of certain fractures or post-surgical repairs e.g. plaster of Paris or fibreglass plaster.
